Seven recent posts that got us thinking, laughing, or something in between
We’ll be sharing a few of our favorite social posts each week — needles in the haystack that got us thinking, laughing, or something in between.
This week, seven posts on work, the work of self-reflection, and the beautiful game…
1 - Keep it Simple, ______
It’s the thing my high school basketball coach used to say, and it’s just as true in corporate leadership today: K.I.S.S. (“keep it simple, stupid” — not “kiss” - that will get you fired). Bonus points for the Bezos video, which is so clear on this point.
2 - I feel seen…
These emails NEVER find me well. These words are weapons, and clearly all written by ChatGPT.
3 - Life is Like a Bucket of Doubt
This one just hit home for me, as I publicly confronted some serious self-doubt. Scratching the surface on this topic, as I’ve heard from many people who are feeling the same…
4 - Creatively Directed
Shout-out to Jason Sperling, who wrote a great book on the career development of creative people. Took two groups of Synonymous folks through it, and then shared this on Twitter to Jason — I got to meet him in person, and the guy has a killer mix of creativity, self-reflection, and thoughtfulness about work. Fully recommend his book for anyone working in a creative company or field (even if you yourself are not a “creative”-type!).

5 - Agency Owner Advice
Jon and I have similar back stories — founding and growing our agencies — but he took all his expertise and is now sharing his very financially-minded advice daily on LinkedIn. Lots of great thought-provokers for anyone who cares about the business of advertising agencies, owner or otherwise.
Disclaimer: I’m a minor investor in Jon’s new company Ramsay Innovations, which is building financial planning software for small and midsize agencies.
6 - Back to the Office!
“How did you build McBeard while having NO office?”
It’s the number one question Alan and I have gotten over the years. And perhaps it’s the topic of our next post…
7 - Wizard of Awwwwwwws
Yes, just yes. And there’s a lot more to explore here — The Wizard (Rebecca?), Toto (Coach Beard), the Wicked Witch (Rupert), etc etc etc.
That’s it for this week. What did you like? What did we miss?

PS - who noticed that I included not just one but TWO references to Forrest Gump? Now there can be no doubt that I am clearly on the pulse of modern popular culture…
